General Naturopathic Care

Why You Should Consider Naturopathic Medicine:

General Naturopathic Care BellinghamNaturopathic medicine utilizes diet, lifestyle and other natural tools in helping to get you well. It has a unique philosophy of healing, which makes its approach to your health different from many other providers.

I believe that body, mind and spirit are connected. Even if you’re coming to see me for one main complaint, I like to know about your other symptoms and what makes you tick, so I can connect how everything fits together and look for the underlying cause. That’s why our appointment times are longer than most other doctors, so we have time to cover more of what you’d like to work on. This also gives you more space to share your story, as much of it as you’d like me to know.

I can help you manage your condition naturally, reduce or come off medications, have more energy, sleep better, be able to play with your (grand)kids more, be more active, focus better, be more productive, feel less pain.

Examples of other conditions I support with naturopathic medicine:

  • Rashes, such as eczema or psoriasis
  • Autoimmune conditions, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren’s
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Ear infections
  • Hormone imbalances, such as PMS and menopausal symptoms
  • Preventative healthcare, such as aiming to prevent heart disease or cancer when you have a family history

How Naturopathic Medicine is Different:

Naturopathic care centers around 6 main principles:

The Healing Power of Nature: Naturopathic medicine recognizes that everyone has an innate self-healing force, called the vis, or vital force. This is similar to chi in Chinese medicine. We believe this force is always trying to work towards bringing you back to balance, and the symptoms you feel are its way of telling you something is either getting in the way of the self-healing process, or something is missing that you need in order to heal. We work to determine those factors to help you get back on the path to optimal health.

Treat the Cause: Naturopathic physicians work to determine and understand the underlying causes of your symptoms and conditions, rather than treating or suppressing symptoms. This helps you have a much higher chance of resolving your symptoms or keeping them from interfering in your life.

First Do No Harm: We aim to use treatments with the least chance of harmful side effects, avoid suppressing symptoms whenever possible, and work with your self-healing process in the way that minimizes effects.

Doctor As Teacher: We work to educate, empower and support you on your own healing journey.

Treat the Whole Person: We take in to consideration all factors that make up you as an individual, from physical health to mental, emotional, social, genetic, environmental and many other factors.

Prevention: Naturopathic physicians focus on prevention of disease through assessing risk factors, addressing genetic/hereditary factors and limiting susceptibility to disease.
